Remnants - promo comic pg 1

Description

So it happened. I have decided to start the comic promo of my novel. Although it's still being finalized, I have received a lot of positive feedback, and some useful, constructive criticism. I am almost certain this is the year I will finally publish it, and then it's back to my main, big novel : )

This particular scene was a little difficult to nail, as I imagine it being in first person point of view. I could not really think of a good way to go about it with static pictures. It plays out better as a 'movie' sequence. Also it required a new 'temporary' design for the character.

I will try to cover three first chapters. I might be able to fit it within 20 pages or less. And then...well, we'll see what happens.

As everyone else has said, this is really good work, but there's 2 little things that I think could be improved. Firstly, the 3rd panel feels like it's a bit too ambiguous. I wasn't sure if I was looking at scenery, the collar and shoulder area, or a face straight on, or a face from the side. And secondly, to me, the font isn't really working with the page. I'm not someone who demands sans serif fonts in comics, but the one you've chosen feels very rigid, and classical. I'm no typographer, but you might want to try something that has a bit more fluidity to it. :) But that's just me.

As for telling a first person story in still images, I think it's quite possible. You could have your character narrate in a number of ways, ranging from the old superheroes giving long exposition in thought, or simply having them think or say "what's going on?" for a more ambiguous approach. I think you could also do a comic with almost no words at all, but you'd need very clear artwork, and maybe more panels to compensate. Of course, the less you explain also means the reader will interpret it all how they want, which may not be what you want.
